This morning three of us, Jon DeWitt, Rick Keaton and I met in the Prayer Room to pray as a part of our 21 Days of Fasting and Praying for the Truth. We had a super time praying together.  I love what God is doing in this effort to seek out the truth at all cost. By the way, if you haven’t seen the refocused Prayer Room you got to get there. The whole environment is prepared in such a way that it fosters prayer BIG TIME!

While we were praying I began thinking about the three crosses. We often set crosses in sets of three and in the Prayer Room there are three. Obviously the most significant cross is the center one where Jesus died to take away the sin of the world. On one of the others there was a thief who turned and asked Jesus to “remember me.” On the other cross there was a thief who didn’t choose to believe. In fact he jeered at Jesus and his partner who repented.  The longer I thought about it the more I realized that those three crosses represent all of humanity.

Jesus offers redemption to all, those who jeer and those who turn. And everywhere you go you find both those who will wake up to their need for grace and those who justify their choices and ignore God’s offer of forgiveness.  I hope when someone jeers you’ll remember the cross was for that one too. As the other thief illustrates it is never too late to turn as long as you have life. And the cross is what makes it possible for anyone of us to reconnect with the Father. Without Jesus none of us make it but that’s the Good News, it is there for all.

I’m glad I started my day thinking about the love of God—there’s no better way.
